We had a thread about this a while back, but I can't find it in search. Anyway, looks like liftport (the company that wants to make the cable for the space elevator) is building a commercial factory. I didn't realize carbon nanotube technology was that far along.

Summary - (Apr 27, 2005) The Liftport Group of space elevator companies has announced that it will be building a carbon nanotubes manufacturing plant in Millville, New Jersey, to supply various glass, plastic and metal companies with these strong materials.

All the info you need, with presentations given by the researchers themselves.

These are older, but they will do for the layman. Time is precious.

I wonder if it will be like that escalator built in Springfield, that went to nowhere and suddenly just dropped off.

Are these nanotubes related to bucky balls?

Wacki keep posting this modern physics stuff its very very interesting. I liked the frozen light article too.
