Digital audio editing software

so im wanting to play around with some software that mixes and edits audio and such. Anyone know of a good program to look for somewhere i can still off the internet somewhere, either on a p2p or torrent?

GoldWave might do. You can try it for 2000 commands (or something) which is enough for a small project. (It is $40 but there might be a workaround.)

I doubt you can find a way to get it free, but Logic Pro is awesome if you can find it. Depending on what kind of music you want to use this for, Cubase or Cakewalk might be better. All of these programs run ~$1k though, so I'm guessing they're hard to find ways to get them for free.
