5-10 6 max Party Poker

Unknown cutoff open raises, I 3-bet with QQ, he caps..

Flop is AAK, rainbow

He bets, I raise, he calls...

Turn is a Q

He checks, I check...

Turn is a deuce..

He bets, I raise...

Comments? I won't bias responses by giving my own thoughts (Though I probably would if I had some good ones)

Many thanks,
MV

why check the turn??????????? [ QUOTE ]

Well,I felt that my hand was too strong to fold to a turn check raise...but his capping, generally speaking, narrows the range of hands he might have to a dangerous few...On the other hand, I do have a pretty strong holding myself...It just seemed more "prudent" (what a terrible word for a poker player...I know...I know...) to wait to get my raise in on the river...if he 3-bets I'm just going to call..

Is my thinking totally out of whack here?

I don't think it's nearly aggressive enough.

I cap the turn, and call down the river if he keeps betting into me.

checking the turn doesn't really get you anywhere, here. Is a free card going to help him catch up to an AAKQ board?

It seems to me that capping the turn requires the assumption that my opponent must be a borderline loon...What hands can I put this guy on that makes capping profitable. If he's got a hand like JJ or TT or 99 is he going to check and raise turn most of the time with that board? I don't think so...The only hand that's good for me that would make any sense would be a weak ace..But is he going to cap preflop with a hand like AJ, AT, A9..I suppose he could have JT, but again, is that a preflop capping hand?

What am I missing?

Well for one thing, you have no idea how to use the quote function.

=) Even if I don't cap the turn, you've got to at least raise it.
