ok i have played 50 SNGS so far. I have had some really wierd placeings. I am wondering if this is good or bad long term. I have around a 40% ROI and ~ 35% ITM i am like 30% first and the rest of my finishes are spread out from 2-10 with 5-6 getting slightly more than the tohers. is this wierd?

What he said...

Be happy you have more 1sts than any other place right now...don't expect that number to maintain.

I think the currently accepted sample size for adequacy is 3.4 blargzillion.

To the OP...just keep on trucking. You are never going to be totally comfortable that you know how you are doing or whether you should be playing a higher/lower or more games. I know that it was a little tough for me to avoid obsessing about ITM and ROI, but I think it was beneficial for me. As long as the account balances keep going up now, I'm happy. I can't tell you what my ROI/ITM is now, but there was a time not too long ago that I could give tell you what they were for over the last week and over the year-to-date.

It is a small sample size as they said and you can't tell anything from it, but the classic winning distribution is very few 8-10 and some kind of spike in 5th, 6th, or 7ths.

The 1-4 places I think vary considerably among winning players, but I think most typical is fewer 4ths and 2nds than 1sts or 3rds.

I think if there were a lot of this kind of data available one could divine the best strategy. I also think the optimal distribution would vary quite a bit by buy-in.

exactly, it went the other way around for me... (this is just recently when i moved from 5/10 short, back to sngs)
Tournies: 60 something
ITM: 40%
ROI: -6%

I don't know how unusual, but 40% itm and -6% roi seems pretty unusual.

sounds like not enough aggression on the bubble... too many 3rd places.

Yeah definitely. Excellent getting ITM there, but probably with too small a stack, or else getting blinded down by not pushing enough.
