isn't it lasik anyway?

Got it 3 years ago for $750/eye. It took about 6 months to completely stabilize(had a little "starburst" at night before that), but it is so worth it. The best is for trips where you don't have to lug around solution and contacts.

It's definitely worth it, although I've heard that there is a new procedure where they stick a permanent lens on top of your eyeball(less invasive) that is supposed to be better.

I think lasik is just a brand type thing, like calling tissues "kleenex".

I have a friend who had laser eye surgery, he seems to like it, I don't know how much it costs but I think anywhere frome 500-1500 per eye.

I've thought about getting this myself, but I can't stomach the thought of going thru the procedure.

$5000 total.
No side effects. Still 20/20. Never had halos or anything like that. Glad I got.

One suggestion. If you can, find an independent optometrist to evaluate you as a candidate. My eye doctor told me the vast majority of problems come from people who never should have been approved to get it in the first place.

I have been thinking about getting this also. Contacts are a pain in the butt.

Can you function the next day?
Are there any downsides?

I have to think if Tiger Woods and Greg Maddux got it it must be pretty easy and safe.

I was also looking into getting this but why is there such a large difference in the prices? Some people say they get it for $600/eye while others say they paid $5,000+.

The price has dropped considerably in past years. The guy who said 5,000 said he got it four years ago, when it was still relatively new.

You can definitely find a competent opthalmologist to do both eyes for under 2k now. I plan on getting it done sometime in the next year. Until then I am stuck with contacts.

i got lasik 3 years ago.

my eyes were 20/180 and i paid $2,100 for both.

it's the coolest thing i've ever spent money on. my eyes are perfect now and i love it.

i was doped up and napped all day afterwards, but i actually went out that night (although i didn't drive and my eyes were still all dilated and bugged out).

supposedly some people have eye dryness issues afterwards, but i never noticed any adverse effects.

Is it true that you're awake and coherent while they do it? I've heard people say that and it freacks me out that they're working on your eyes while your aware of it. Blech! Makes me think of Clockwork Orange.

My father is an eye surgeon and believes that a destructive operation on a perfect (with aid) eye is a risk not worth taking. He's not allowed my mother to have it done.

My bad. Anyway, the point I was trying to make is that the 5,000 was from 4 years ago, and the price has dropped a shitload since then.

Both my parents got is 9-10 years ago up in canada, well before it was approved in the US. My mom was like 20/1600 and 20/2000 uncorrected and now has 20/20 vision, no side effects, for 10 years. My dad's eyes weren't nearly as bad but he had the same experience.

If you're worried it's not safe, my eye doctor gave it to both his sons as high school grad presents. Just an anecdote.

Yes it was really bad. She was correctable up to 20/20 though so it wasn't too bad, as long as she had her contacts in.

My contact lens boxes say -3.25 for the left eye, and -3 for the right. Do you know what that translates to in terms of 20/?

LASIK is an (almost) acronym. It means Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis. There are variations on the procedure with slightly different names, like LASEK or ELASEK/epi-LASEK.

It will be interesting to see if Mason responds to this post.

how old do you have to be to get this procedere, 21 or 18? also do your eyes degrade aftewards, someone said they wanted to wait until they were 25 to get this done for that reason. i really hate my galsses.

most people wait till they're 21 or so to make sure their eyes are done changing. get a recommendation from an optometrist you trust who HAS NO STAKE IN YOUR SURGERY. Very important. if you read my earlier posts, my mom had TERRIBLE vision and got it 10 years ago, NO degradation. same story for everyon i know.
