I'm interested in picking this LCD up in the near future, but some of the online reviews I have seen are terrible. They usually are complaining of a "screendoor effect" and grainyness on the monitor. It's odd, the reviews are very "love it or hate it". Those who have it, have you noticed this? I don't a lot of experience with LCDs so I don't know what they are talking about.
Thanks,

CF

The picture is awesome and is very easy on the eyes. People who complain about screendoor effect aren't playing poker for 5+ hours. I think they're doing graphic design etc. where detail is very important. The strobbing effect of a CRT is very noticable when you put one next to a 2001fp. I have a 19" CRT and 2001fp and I only use the CRT when I absolutely have to. The 2001fp's image is very quiet and easy to look at. You will love it and probably want 2 of them. The only problem I have is that the text is quite small. I'd like to get a larger screen than 20" so that the text is a little bigger.

Thanks droolie, thats a big part of why I want to get an LCD...looking at a 20" CRT for long periods of time is really bothering my eyes. I was going to keep the CRT for use with games.

I bought 2 2001FP's in December, and I haven't found anything to be unhappy about yet. I use them for poker (obviously), gaming, and several hours of web browsing/spreadsheets/etc a day. Before these I was using a very good Viewsonic 19" CRT, which I now classify as complete garbage.

Do you notice much ghosting in games? I know the 2001FP has a pretty good response time but I figured it wouldn't be close to as good as a CRT for this purpose.

You'll probably want to game on the 2001fp too. I do. I'm planning on getting another 2001fp in a few months and retiring the CRT to be the kids computer monitor in their playroom.

Do you use firefox? Hold down ctrl and scroll your mouse wheel down while browsing. waPOWN.

You can also permanently set it to display bigger, but I like to just adjust it manually each time depending on what I'm using the browser for.

Doesn't that just change the text size not the actual size of the appearance of pages? Webpages have images and crap that have are not effected when you do this right? Changing the text size screwed with the page formatting and made it kind of ugly to look at so I went back to a more normal looking view.

It does just change the text size, but I find it very helpful on 2+2 and many other sites.

I don't use it when it futzes the formatting.

The only thing I dont like about FP2001's, they only do 1600x1200.. I'm a resolution junkie, I cant give up my dual 2048x1536's, 6.3 megapixels ladies and gents.. Monitor 1: 9 tables in a 3x3 grid, just about no overlap. I can see all action buttons, chat windows, cards, and boards. Monitor 2: Lobbys, 2+2, rgp, winamp, PT, IM, etc.. </brag>

My sony multiscan E540 does that. Only paid $229 bucks for it.

I have 2 2001FP's and I play games constantly. I've never seen any ghosting at all on EQ1, EQ2, Guild Wars, or Far Cry. I actually had a CRT hooked up side by side with 1 of these while I was playing EQ, and a few times had a game window going on each monitor. The picture of the 2001fp absolutely destroyed the CRT(19" gateway). I don't think I could play a game on a CRT again.

The only downside is that you'll want to run your games in 1600x1200 if you don't already. Any resolutions under that will cause a sort of cloudy look.

Oh and lastly I hooked up a PS2 and a Gamecube to the 2001fp via the video in slot. The graphics pretty much looked horrible but I think that's because they use a resolution of like 320x200 or something. Everything looked blocky like NES mario on a big screen TV. The colors were definitely something to look at though, and from a distance it looked sweet. If I use the PIP mode which will run your console game in a smaller window on the monitor then it looks really really good(but of course is only about 3").

Hope this helps.

Hey Brian I think there is some high resolution addon you need to get for the Xbox for it to display higher resolutions on hdtvs and monitors, maybe there is the same kind of thing for gamecube/PS2.

Ya, crt's. AFAIK, they dont even have LCD's that go higher than the FP2001 or FPW2005. And if they did, I'm sure they'd be a grand apiece and I'd still stick with the crt's. I'm a cheap bahstahd...

Heavy baloney factor there. CRT's do not all have abysmal refresh rates. Not these days, when 1600x1200 is standard capability on even the cheapest 19-inch CRT's.

I would be very surprised if a CRT was running 2048x1536 at anything higher than 70hz.
