This has been a question bothering me since I first started using the internet. Do you put your smilies on the inside or outside of a paranthesis?

Example:
Inside: I went to the store (and had a great time ;-))
Inside: I went to the store (and had a great time /images/graemlins/wink.gif)
Outside: I went to the store (and had a great time) ;-)

This obviously depends on if the smiley is specifically related to what is in the parenthesis or if it is about the sentence as a whole. In the above case I believe inside is the way to go but that might depend on what store you were at.
