View Full Version : worst beat of all time?

While playing at the borgata in AC I built a $450 stack playing 2-5 no limit. Then I am dealt 77 and the flop comes 277, giving me four of a kind, obviously. Some very crazy man bets all in from under the gun, pushing about 4 and change. At this point I feel as though I am a fat kid who just won a ticket into wonkas factory. I naturally call and the huge pot draws a crowd of on lookers. He flips his JJ and I expose my four 7s. He is not feeling so hot. That is of course until the turn and river are JJ. He wins I lose. As if this is not bad enough, an on looking pit boss gives the guy a hat for winning such a nice hand. In summation, he gets ridiculous cards, my money, and a free hat, and I get zero. Any questions.

Any time your foe is dead to two specific cards, and he needs both, it's 1080:1 with 2 cards to come.

However, losing 4 of a kind to higher 4 of a kind is not the worst 1080:1 bad beat possible.

Can you guess what is?

Hint:

It's 76 suited. Flop comes 89T of your suit. You flop a straight flush. Guy with AK (or AQ or AJ) of the same suit thinks he has the nuts. Boom, runner runner royal straight flush.

Never seen it.

But I have seen 54 suited. Flop comes A23 same suit. KQ thinks he has nut flush. Runner runner JT for Royal. Happened to me (I had the 54).

The worst 3 way bad beat is Ah Ax Kh Kx Qh board with AA, KK and JhTh out.

Pet peeve of mine. It's actually 989:1. I'll let others elaborate.

Play in a casino with a bad beat jackpot and smile when the dealer gives him his 800 in change and you get 300,000 check from the pit boss. Shake his hand, invite him to the sizzler, and then go home and dance a jig. On a serious note, that is a real shame, and I'm pretty sure i'd be in the hospital (recovering from my heart attack) awaiting my court date (for first degree battery, possibly 1st degree murder)

You are right. My bad. The 2 cards you need and hit, by definition, can't be in your opponents' hand.

Wow.

You are the first person I've ever corrected on this who understood what the reasoning was without me having to draw a picture. Seriously.

This is an equivalent bad beat. Both are 1/990. I don't see how it's worse.

There are 7 cards in play (3 floped and 2 in each hand)

52-7 = 45 cards left possible to come out cause you don't know what was mucked so u must count every possible card.

so now would't the calculation be 45 different cards times 44 different cards for the river so 45x44 =1980 combinations. There are onyl two combinations the give you the two jacks (since the jacks are two different cards, they can come out in different orders) so 2/1980 = 1/990 or 989:1 is that how you guys calculated it?

That's a genuine wrist slasher! I'd be pissed at the pit boss for giving this guy congrats for a "nice hand"!?! PS you obviously took this beat well enough not to have taken matters into your own hands (unless your posting this from the gray bar hotel).

This was while I was playing .01/.02 so the money wasnt much, but in terms of BB it was huge. I have 99 flop a set, bet, it gets capped with 3 callers. One guy with pocket 4s catches a 4 on the turn, betting is capped again. River brings another 4, betting gets capped again. I lost a 45BB pot on a 1000-1 suckout. I thinks thats the worst beat you can have in HE. Of course it was only for .90 so I didnt cry too much /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I do not consider this a horrible beat. The man with JJ went all in to protect his hand with a 772 board he can only be seriously worried about AA KK QQ 77 22. I mean I have no idea what the preflop action was like. But on a 772 flop going all in to protect your overpair is a smart play since he does not want to see an A K or Q on the turn. Mathematically it is a bad beat but your oppenent played the hand fine. P.S. The floorman was a dink!!!

This is the worst beat possible in hold'em, but by no means the worst beat possible.

In 7-stud

Player A: 6666
Player B: 2s 4s 3d 2c

Player B must hit As 3s 5s, a greater than 13,000:1 shot.

Draw Poker

Player A: Kd Qd Jd Td 9d
Player B: Ad Ah Ac 9s 9h
Player C: 2c 3d 7c 4s 2d

Player C must draw five cards to a royal flush in spades a more than 400,000:1 dog.

Well, it's all semantics, but a straight flush is often referred to as a higher flush than say Ace high, and thus the 'nut flush' is a straight flush.

Because 76 suited got a straight flush cracked, not four of a kind. So, even though the odds of it happening are the same, it's still considered worse by some to have a straight flush cracked than a four of a kind. Either way, you just lost all your chips.

Of course before the cards are turned over you could be drawing dead with the straight flush. With the four of a kind example you were garunteed to at least be a 329:1 favorite.

First of all, this is not the worst beat of all time. I am the author of the worst beat of all time. Bally's Wild Wild West Casino, AC. The board has 2 aces, so using my electronic wrist card dealing mechinism, I quickly exchanged my 7 deuce for A A. I showed down quads, and the gentleman across from me- an elderly man with super-white hair and cosmic blue eyes, wearing a dusty brown suit and gun holster, says with a raspy voice:
"Boy, I reckon your gonna be sick, cause I got you wrapped up 'bout as tight as my great-grandaughter's ass."
The dealer looks at his hand, and shouts: "Oh, Big Brind Special! A ROYAL FRUSH!"

I stared into his eyes, and said, "When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross."

Then, the lit cigar fell out of his mouth and smothered in his quadruple jack on the rocks. Blood ran from his mouth. The joint grew silent, but nobody dared look as I just shot this man square between the eyes.

The dealer pushed me the pot. "Now that," I said, "Is the worst beat I've ever seen."

i think in situations like this you should do one of the following:

a) fold pre-flop

or

b) quit whining
