Are filthy chips (checks) standard operating procedure for casinos?

Define nasty chips. The Borg has new clean ones, but those damn magnetic slugs annoy the hell out of me.

You haven't seen nasty chips until you've played Commerce 6/12. All casinos have old, dirty chips, they all stick together, etc. But nothing is like Commerce's green chips. They are caked in black soot, so you can barely see the green color anymore. You can grab one chip and the 9 below it come along for the ride. Try and separate them, can't. Try to shuffle them, can't. Try to cut stacks of 5 or 10, can't. They are absolutely filthy.

Even if the Bike 6/12 were a worse game (it isn't), I would still play there over Commerce just so I didn't contract mad cow disease from touching their grimy composite nightmares.

[/ QUOTE ] I asked about this to multiple people, and they said no such magnetic slug, it is just that they are a plastic and you get a "suction" seal. Just what they said.

I concur, I thought they were particularly nasty at the Taj.

there is definitely a metal slug in the chips, as to its magneticism, im not sure.
i have a couple at home, ill see if they pick up any paperclips

I ran into what are probably the same crap BJ chips last fall in the Halifax casino. Only good thing I can say about them is that they encouraged more aggressive play, given that it was nigh on impossible not to get hitchhikers when you tried picking up a few.

This alone would probably keep me away from the Borg. Then again, to me, everything is secondary to the poker chip quality.

Last time I was at the borg the floor told me that they are having all of the chips replaced in the casino by tghen end of the summer due to these problems.

yes, definitely a slug inside. it will not pick up a paperclip though so dont think its magnetic. break a black chip in half(just kidding). there is a small bronze colored slug inside.

Re Borgata Chips:

I have some at home as well and I think that they are definitely magnetic. I thought the comment about it being a suction seal type thing was interesting, but you'll find that even if you place one on top of the other somewhat off-center(so they the dimples aren't perfectly aligned) they still tend to grip.

I also think that rubbing them together a bit increases the effect, but then again maybe I'm nuts.

One floor person at the Borg said they weren't magnetic, the other that they were. Anyone know who makes the chips so we can ask them?

I'm assuming that they're made by Bud Jones, and may not start out magnetic, but tend to acquire their magnetism in much the same way any such metal might.

Nice to know that they take complaints to heart. When I went there regularly last summer I was talking to the room manager about the chips and he showed me a slug from a broken chip and told me about them being magnetic. He said that I was one of several who complained about the chips being stuck together all the time and that they were going to replace them by the end of the summer (last summer).

Between the horrible wait times at the borg and the overall fishiness of the Taj games, I have not been back in 6-7 months. If they finally get rid of the chitty chips and open the new room to fix the wait/game selection problem, I might make it back someday.

By me throwing them recklessly into the middle on dumb draws?

I never understood the "I'm tired of waiting when I go to the Borgata" thing. I've often arrived when the list for a game I wanted to play was at least 40-deep, and been seated within minutes.... I know of a lot of other people who also have no problem with the lists. Don't let a long list stop you from enjoying a great room, it's not tough to get a seat...

For games where they are only spreading one or two tables, it can be a huge pain.

Why don't they wash them?

PS: You didn't include a selection in your poll for "Don't know", and people who don't know have to select something to see the results.

I heard this age-old debate come up at my table again last night. I imagine there are metal slugs in them.

The tendency of the chips to stick together makes it very difficult to count out them out for a bet in NL. I found the dealer and players at the table asking me how much I was betting, because I was taking forever to count them out.
