View Full Version : Quick review of the Wynn poker room

I know this is OT, but since I was there on opening day I thought I'd give a quick review in case anybody cares.

The Wynn is elegant and pleasantly designed, as expected. It is not as awe-inspiring as the Bellagio, but the lack of an underlying "theme" actually makes it seem a bit more refined.

The poker room is a little smaller than the Bellagio's, which surprised me... but it's extrememely comfortable and well-appointed. There's an entirely separate VIP/high limit room which I could not get into (even though I told them I was Irieguy; Negreanu owed me 50-large, I knew he was in there losing my money.)

The chairs are the most comfortable I have ever sat in at a poker room. They are thickly padded and apholstered in brown corduroy. The padding around the tables is also dark brown, which gives the whole room a feel different than that of any other poker room. It's nice.

Unfortunately, I can't really review the games because I was there at 5am and there were only a few low limit hold'em games and a 20-40 omaha game with all the same jokers that normally occupy the Bellagio game at 5am. I did have the pleasure of sitting down at an $8/$16 holde'em table, capping the action preflop without looking at my cards, raising blind on every street, and scooping a nice big pot with 5c-7s and 4 clubs on the board. I then said "this game's dead," and walked away after only playing one hand. (My original plan was to sit there for maybe a half hour, max... just to check it out, but this way was much more fun.) The Wynn staff did their due dilligence and extracted my poker winnings from me before I could exit the casino... but I still feel like a winner. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

So, if you are ever in town I would certainly recommend checking it out... but I would have to say that it could be a bit disappointing if your expectations are a high as mine were. I guess I was expecting to be blown away, which probably isn't a very realistic expectation for a poker room.

Did they have the waiting lists on a tv and the individual pager system up and running? I know it was 5 AM so there might not have been a waiting list.

Did you stake him too, or is Degen really Negreanu? /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Nice.

No, Danny borrowed the 50K at the opening night of Sin... he got in a little over his head in the Champagne Room and old Irieguy had to bail him out.

So they saw through your 'spinning' technique then? Or Zen wasn't there to bail you out with his perfected toss? /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ahhh, outstanding question. I can't believe I left that out of my review. The cocktail waitresses at the Wynn are magnificent. They are supermodels carrying Heinekens... which is pretty much the most beautiful sight on earth.

I am extremly dissapointed with Vegas cocktail waitresses in general.

I assume all the hot ones just become strippers.

No the kwy is that many of the hot ones think they are better then strippers so they become cocktail waitresses. The Wynn has a hotel as well right? Did you see it at all or were you just in the casino?

Do you know what range of games they will be spreading? More importantly, what are the lowest limits they will spread?

I'm expecting to drop by the Wynn sometime this weekend, so hopefully I will be able to give it a quick review as well.

You can go to pokerpages.com and do a search of upcoming tournaments. You can also do a search there for weekly tournaments in Vegas - but be forewarned that the site is often not updated, so call the poker rooms ahead of time to confirm the details of the tournies.
