View Full Version : check/raising heads up against pf raiser, with pair on flop

Today is my day for figuring out what I'm missing by check-raising rarely. Here's one situation I'm trying to get a better feel for.

Say you're in bb with something like 98clubs. Everyone folds to co, who raises, quite possibly on a steal. It's folded to you and you call.

Flop is QQ9 (without clubs). Looks to me that a standard line advocated here is to go for a check/raise. But I don't understand why that's superior to betting out. Seems that the check/raise makes it clear that you do not have a Q (unless, I suppose, you also check/raise with trips). Betting out, on the other hand, I would think leaves it a little less clear what you have: some people would assume you have a 9, a small pair, maybe a straight draw or perhaps even a Q.

I'm clearly missing something here. Can someone enlighten me?
