The Villian had 40/13/2 over 500 hands. I think I should have just checked the river and then called, what do you think?

That's hardly a maniac. Just Loose/aggressive.

I think the river bet is fine but I would call.

If it were truly against a "maniac" this would be the worst fold ever. I'd probably 3-bet against a maniac. Actually I'm sure I would.

I'm check/calling the river. There aren't many hands you're beating if called.

Yeah, you're probably right bakku. I think I was just biased too much by the misleading "maniac" title.

My ratio of value bettig/bluff inducing changes considerably against a LAG. If a scare card hits on the river and hes capable of bluff raising I like the check call. This seems like one of those spots where if you can't find a fold to a raise check calling is optimal.
