I was wondering what main methods people use to determine what table to select when starting a session on say party poker? All comments are greatly appreciated.

For limit games I will go entirely on average pot size. For NL I use average pot size to look at tables I might want to sit at and then I check to see if anyone has a huge stack. I have found that the huge stacks arent all that dangerous though and are usually smart enough to recognize my table image and be afraid to enter pots with me.

For exampler earlier today I sat at a PL 25 table on Party with an average pot of 12 dollars, most players were around 25 but 2 players had 70 dollars. One of them got up over 100 while I was there, but I was playing extremely aggressive and he even admitted he was scared to play pots against me. This allowed me to take the fishies money and scare him off his hands and thus take his as well.

I answered "Other". It doesn't make much difference which table you get into as long as you can get out of it if it wasn't the right choice.

I don't have time right now for a long and drawn out explanation, but table stability is very high on the list for me. Tables with exaggerated pot sizes either a) break up quickly, or b) fill up with sharks.

I look for tables with:
a) one open seat
b) higher than average pot size
c) seemingly stable players

Obviously, the stability factor has to be looked at while you're waiting for the blind to come around if you don't post, but I pay close attention until I'm sure it's not on it's way to a quick breakup.

I, for one, do NOT look for large pots. Most of the time this may suggest extreme agression rather than "fishy" players. Time and time again I see these wanna be "sharks" running to tables with high VP$IP, only to be priced out of most of the pots.I'd rather not sit at a table for an hour (or more) for pocket aces to come along so that the odds justify seeing the flop. Secondly, I rather ENJOY being creative with drawing hands once in a whiole.

Other is correct... its a mix of all those things really.

When I fire up the search engine, the first thing I look for is buddies (i.e. fish) because if the pot size is $4 less in a 2/4 or something it doesn't matter, You've got a large fish at the table that will make up for that.

After browsing the fish, I do a search like this...
For 2/4 when there busy

Limits - 2/4
No. Of Players - Greater than 8 (as I will log hands for about 30 minutes prior to sitting down anyways a waiting list doesn't matter)
Avg Pot Size - $36

Ussually gives me enough tables to choose from.

When Multi-Tabling for a profit You're going to want these high VP$IP guys in there with you... Sit at a table with a bunch of LAPS/LAGS or sit at a table with TA-A's and Rocks?

At Micro/Small Stakes, creativity will get you killed most of the people can't see it for what it is, "representing" a hand in a multi-way low-stakes game is just -EV

I start PokerEdge, and open 4 tables and join the waitlists. After a minute PokerEdge has info about allmost all the players. I unjoin the waiting lists of the bad tables, and stay on the good ones. Then I close all the tables and open 4 new ones and do the same thing. After a while you sit at 4 good tables.

It is a common misconception that you need to tighten up at a loose, aggressive table. You don't need to wait for aces when people are raising with A5o. AQo and TT will do fine.

I look for a relatively high percentage of players seeing third street, and a relatively low average pot size. This says to me that the players are loose-passive, and I should be able to run over them easily.
