Every Monday I host a fantastic 3/6 'home' game that is filled with a few 2+2ers, and tons of fish (we try our best to stock the fish tank every week... and if you have ever been there before you'd get the double meaning immediately). This week there was a new dealer who had never dealt this game before. I was sitting in the 2nd position, and a player brand new to casino hold'em was sitting to my left. The new player was splashing his chips in odd places, this time he happened to be UTG. I checked in the BB with A5s against a full field and held my left hand over the cards to protect them (I never use a card protector). As the dealer was reaching over to grab UTG's chips he pushed his hand into mine and the cards upward to flash 1/2 the table.
The floor was summoned, it was decided my hand was dead but since I had protected my cards I would be refunded my investment into the pot. I think this is a fair ruling since this was of no fault of my own, it was clearly an error of the dealer since I was protecting my cards the entire time (just not good enough it seems). But what if this occurred on the turn, or even on the river heads up? What would be a fair ruling? We have all been discussing this for the past two days... its a very unique scenario.
