My question in these 2 hands is specifically this: Is there value in trying to keep the 3rd person in the flop, or play it hard since the other person has shown they have a real hand too in my opinion -- 90% sure they had trips.

well in both cases its hard to agrue against doubling up, which u did. i think if u smooth call the raises on the flop you might get that one extra person to come along and drop the hammer on the turn.
