Is 2+2 full of a bunch of great golfers, or is everyone just a hack who likes to go out and have fun? Also, how often do you get out to play?

I play in the summer but I have no idea what my handicap is so I picked the highest. I usually shoot like 15-20 over so its probably right.

I only play 9 but I go anywhere from 40-60 depending on how my iron game is going.

If you are talking about an 18 hole round of golf, then an average 15-20 over would probably mean you are around a 15-16 handicap. The handicap is calculated by the average strokes over par of the best 10 of your last 20 rounds (at least in BC it is).

lol, thats quite the spread. I guess I do go anywhere from 33-50 on 9 holes though. Both 33 and 50 are an extreme rarity however. They only occur if I am playing absolutely amazing, or if I was gonna have a round of about 44-45 and just get pissed and stop caring. Usually I shoot around 38 for 9 holes, and 75-78 for 18.

I was a 5 at the end of last season, but it was a long winter, so I said 6-10. I only play once or twice a week when the weather permits, but I spend much more time than that around the practice green and range.

My problem is that as soon as one part of my game clicks, another thing will start goign dead wrong. Ugh. I usually go in the 50-54 range, have shotten 40 once and in the 40's a couple times. But I only in spurts. Like 5 in one week, then not again for another 2 weeks. I'm gonna play more consistently this summer tho hopefully.

My house(while I'm not away for school) is actually right on a golf course. You walk out of my back gate, and you are on the third hole. I have worked at this course for the last 5 years, and going on my 6th this summer. I am down at the course everyday, whether it be for work, or to play. I probably get 4-5 rounds in every week. I am about a 4 or 5 handicap, but I definetly feel with the amount of time I put in, I should be better.

BTW, if anyone happens to be in the Kamloops area (yea... right) and wants to play some golf, I could probably get some comped rounds.

When I was 13, I was better than Greg Norman at 13!

I'm gonna start up again this year after about a 6 year lay off after I finished high school. I was a 12 handicap last time I played. Usually played at least once a week during the summer and practiced on some part of my game every day.

By professional, do you mean play for a living? Or teach for a living? If you play for a living, what tour?

I am definetly considerably better than the head professional at my course /images/graemlins/smile.gif. Last time I played with him, I think he shot 89 lol. He definetly knows his stuff when it comes to teaching and swing mechanics though.

used to play, mini tours mostly. Teach a little now.
(by the way, Greg Norman took up golf at 16!)

I firmly believe that anyone without any serious physical disability can become a very good golfer in 2-3 years if they have the time and money to work at it. I guess being young (in your physical prime or earlier) also really helps, but is not essential.

Even disabilities don't really prevent it if you have the drive either. The old assistant pro at my course was about 5'9 160 lbs. His right arm was gimped and almost completely immobile and skinnier than my wrists (we nicknamed him BW for Broken Wing). His left arm is about the size of my leg. He would use his right arm to steady the club and keep it on plane, and swing almost entirely with his left arm. His swing looked so ridiculous, but he hit is consistently over 300 yards. It was ridiculous to watch. He is also about a +2 handicap, and I have played with him when he shot 30 on the front nine of my course, par 36 (it was from the white tees, but still).

11-15, in the process of changing my swing and playing more than I ever have though.

Im just starting to get the bug (after everyone else in my family has been a long term addict). I played yesterday and shot 96 (52-44). I'm just starting to be able to consistently shoot in the 100 range. Next step: new clubs as I'm using a very old hand me down set.

I did win 4 presses with a 15 foot putt on the last hole, however. If anyone comes to Costa Rica and wants to play a round, let me know.

my last official handicap was 2.7, but that was about 4 years ago because i didnt have very much time to play during college. i just brought my clubs out to NY and have been hitting the range alot. when i play around im usually around 80.

About 16 or so on regular courses. I am cursed by my lack of driving ability, but thats coming around. I've tossed some low 80's in there on a couple tough courses though, so I'm happy...

My short game is spot on though and I'm a 1 on my local executive course (par 29) with 3 under my best.

I get in about 10-20 rounds a year depending, but play about 72 holes a week on the executive...

Saw thread title and thought I would get to laugh at people with missing limbs, learning disabilities, down syndrome, etc. Disappointing to say the least.

And don't tell me "this thread is dead". I tend to get to them a little bit late.

Yahoo handicap tracker says that I'm a 6.8, but I'm convinced that I'm not that good. 10 or 11 index sounds about right.

I got down to an 11 at the end of last year, which is pretty much a lifetime best. It's a [censored] playing to it, when I'm at least as likely to shoot 90 as I am 80.

Get out for 1-2 full rounds and 1-3 nine hole rounds a week -- I'd rather play than practice, but would probably be a better player if it was reversed.

I'm missing my pinky toe on my left foot. Does that count as a handicap?

I am a golf professional. I used to play golf, but now I sell sweaters, run tournaments, and listen to grouchy old bastards gripe about playing golf. In college, playing religiously I was about 2, now more like 8/9.

To the guy that thinks anyone can play with money, time, and effort. There is obviously some truth. Anyone will improve, but not just anyone will be great. Look at Michael Jordan, has all the athletic talent, money, and time in the world to become Tiger Woods but although Jordan is a good golfer, he will never be great.
