I didn't want to risk most of my stack here in this situation esp. so early in the tourney, villian hadn't played a hand yet, and was worried about AA, KK, or QQ, This is a 20+2 if that helps. Was this the right play?

I too, would have folded. If you think you are one of the better players in the game, do not get involved in what might be a "toss up" on the first level.

Well obvioulsy I didn't end up calling but did go on to win the tourney, so I'm glad I folded. Though I will admit it was a very hard laydown.

Wait, so because you went on to win the tourney it was a good play? That is terrible thinking. Whether you went on to win the tourney or not has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with whether AK or +EV here.

seriously, the ak preflop all in during the first round of 11-33 is a huge weapon. I would look to get all in with AK preflop every single time.

I think that's a good laydown. You haven't watched enough of the game to know what kind of player it is. They're probably fishy, but maybe not.

There's a very strong chance that you're against small or medium pair, in which case you're in a race. Its common for people to try and overplay these.

Although players are pretty loose in these kind of games, you want to wait until you think you have the better hand. AK is not a favorite to most of the hands that would likely go all in here, even a fish. It needs improvement on the flop.

These games are loose enough. You shouldn't have to risk your whole tourney on the assumption that this guy is loose and that he's going all in with lower or dominated cards. Two assumptions, either of which could backfire.

1. Opponent went all in over one bet of T60, with 80 chips in the pot. That is insane. No good player does that.

2. People early in the 11s and 22s will go all in preflop with AQ, AJ, even Kxs.

3. Saying AK needs improvement is mostly relevant to playing on the flop.

Call an all-in with AK, or be the first in? Significant difference.

I think calling all-in on the first level after you've got 60 chips invested is bad at the $33's, $22's, $11's, or for baseball cards.

If you got skillz, you can wait for a much better spot. If you're not that good, by all means, call the AK.

Even so, they are a crackhead with 88 or something much more than a hand you really want to see.

Just a general comment. Why does everyone say they dont want to risk thier stack, especially so early in a tournament? You have to risk your stack at some point, and if a good opportunity presents itself early, go for it.
By the way, villian doesnt have that good a hand or else he wouldnt go all in. This is either a coin flip or you have a significant advantage.
