I just sat down at a STEP 4. And all of a sudden Nutzrealbig sits down on my right. Any thoughts?

He's very likely been reading your 'How do I play JJ' posts or post-flop posts in general.

Pot odds on this hand were 2.5:1. And T7s is sooo pretty. I'm pretty sure you can see that this call is +$EV. If not, try and do the math, and I'll assist you.

One last thought. I was 0-2 on hands against nutz /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks a lot for posting these hands.

I brought this up because I personally don't know how I would play it either. In the situation, I'm sure I'd push but you got hit with a BB of 200 (as they increased on the next hand), that put you in bad shape. I really guess there is no other way to play this one. I was doing some serious results oriented thinking for you here. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Again, looking at this a second time, I guess it's the right call. Clearly the odds are there and I haven't done the $EV math. I'm working on my continuing problem of trying to slip into the money.

I suppose it's playing scared, but I think I would've folded here if I knew the top 4 spots were getting a freeroll to Step 5 - I probably would've waited it out and tried to slip "ITM". Basically 4th is as good as 1st and I probably would've been playing for 4th.

I don't play the STEPS, so of course, this doesn't matter at all. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Fine call with T7s. Dont worry about 4th or what not. Pot odds plus the chance to knock him out. I think his call with 22 is really bad given that you raised UTG with a lot of people to act.

Yeah, he ran up a real big bankroll and plays good sometimes. He tilts hard, though. I've talked to him some, he's a pretty nice guy, but I wouldn't put him on the same level as some of the other big-name online players.

JMO though.

Here's the problem with this line of thinking. Your goal is to always play the best poker you can at all times.

That being said, "winning" as defined by a STEP 4 is to just place in the top 4. And I had to weigh my objectives, and to weigh my opponenets decisions. I am assuming Nutz understands poker (perhaps a mistake). He may (or may not) know that pushing UTG with any two cards considering his stack is likely +$EV. Knowing that, plus the 2.5:1 pot odds made my decision a lot easier. This was one of my best opportunities to place with little risk. Frankly, I was surprised when he flipped over AK.
