One Nigerian woman was given a year and a half reprieve to wean her baby before being stoned to death, as reported in Harper's Index. A few of my students, all women by the way, have chosen to write about this fact in an assignment I use in which students are asked to explain the fact, telling the reader what it means to people in general and to them in particular. Responses, for the most part, were somewhat predictable. One young woman, though, chose to combine this fact with another about a high school prom in a county in Georgia. The prom was integrated for the first time in 2002. It made her wonder about throwing stones (pun intended).
