Is there a way to open a legal poker club ?
Or are all existant clubs (ex: the all-in in NYC) in fact illegal and walking a very thin line ?

I've wondered about this. I've heard that charging a "seat fee" instead of a rake is a loophole to bypass gaming laws. Can anyone vouch?

This is very dependent on your state and local community laws, so you won't get any good info without letting folks know where you are. Unfortunately, I've just exhausted my knowledge on the subject, and won't be able to add anything beyond this....

It sounds like you are asking if you can open a legal club where gambling on poker is illegal. By definition, no.

Yes, clubs in NYC for example, are at best, walking a thin line. One was busted earlier in the year, a place in Jersey was busted last week.

I've been wondering what it takes to open a legal club myself, but I mean really legal, in a place like LA or somewhere else cardrooms are legal. I imagine there is a gaming board of some sort that you need to get a license from. I don't know if there is a limit on the number licensed at any one time or anything like that.

It's really suprised me that with the newfound popularity of poker the last few years that there hasn't been a bigger push for legalization.

Unfortunately most reports of the poker scence is still one of GA crackheads losing their paycheques and nobody beating the average illegal 5/10 game. So if that view is held by legislators nobody would in their right minds ever allow poker clubs.........

its all the casino's fault. there are companies who hire lobbyists to try and legalize poker. theyre working on it.
