View Full Version : Installing a Kitchen Sink Basket Strainer

Guys:

My basket strainer began leaking recently because the guy I had install it decided not to use rubber gaskets. I re-installed it with the right gaskets, but it continues to leak a little, especially when the hot water is running down the drain.

I'm thinking that I did not use enough plumber's putty to seal the strainer and that caused the small second leak, but I also read a do-it-yourself book which said silicone caulk should be used on stainless steel sinks (which my sink is) and putty should be used on enamel and cast iron sinks.

Does anyone have any experience they could share about installing strainers on stainless steel sinks, especially about whether caulk should be used instead of putty on stainless steel?

Thanks,

Rick
