It's depressing and f'ed up, no doubt you like it. Similar genre to Closer. Probably a better movie than Closer. Too bad you swap nasty Amy Breneman for Natalie Portman.

In the Company of Men was way way better.

the repeated discussions about closer was what prompted me to make this post. i thought closer was an ok and forgettable movie, and that everything i liked about it was done better in YFAN.

You're right. The idea was better than the excution. But the idea was really great. The creshendo "[censored] it" line was good and I like that actor.

I have trouble liking movies with totally unredeemable characters. But if you have to compare Closer and FYAN it's no contest really. Closer is actually a pretty blatant plot ripoff of YFAN. Intersting.

Agreed. I'm not sure Zero Effect falls into the category of 'criminally underrated', or 'great movie that not many have seen'. It really is a fantastic film.
