vindikation

I think I understand the "basics" of the following:
Standard opening raise: 3-4 size of big blind
Standard bet (raised and hit the flop): bet the pot
Continuation bet (raised and missed flop): 40% to 70% pot size bet
Probe bet (preflop raiser checks to you): 30% to 50% pot size bet
Overbetting the pot (2 to 3 times pot size - not pushing all in)???
I can think of maybe a few things: really fearing a flush/straight draw when you flop 2 pair or a set, a bluff or faking a bluff with the nuts. I've never read Super System so this might be a standard thing that many people do, that I haven't picked up on (I saw Brunson do it on PS 2).
Any thoughts on when over betting the pot is appropriate?
