Just would like to know what you guys think about this. I went to local casino a few weeks ago and me and my buddy's were just having some fun and playing some blackjack.

Then this situation came up:

Dealer deals the cards, and deals himself a queen. He now checks his hole card to make sure he does not have a blackjack. He pulls the cards out, and then pulls them back in to double-check. He checks, and its not a blackjack, so we continue play. I whisper to my friend in another language that I think the dealer has a 4. Sure enough, he flips over a 4 and busts. My friend asks me how did I guess that. I said to him what other card can you mistake for an ace?

Last night after a party, we're at the casino again, and the same thing happens, with a different dealer. He had to double-check the hole card, and it turns out to be a 4.

What do you think? Did I just get lucky? What other card in the deck could you possibly mistake for an ace?

i dont see how the dealer could mistake that. i could understand if he looked right at the number/letter how he could potentially think it could be an ace, but all he has to do is look an inch to left(or right) and see the the diamond or whatever symbol is right there, which is obviously not right there for the ace.

It is to prevent this and other dealer tells the most casinos now use card readers (either the prism type or the ones with the magnetic stripes on the aces and ten value cards and the light tha comes on if the dealer has a blakcjack). The dealer doesn't know what his hole card is if he doesn't have a blackjack and cannot communicate this information to the players, intentionally or otherwise.

yes, in casinos where the dealers still actually check the hole cards themselves, this is a common tell.

In fact when I'm playing multiple tables of poker I even mistake A4 for AA. I'm sorely disappointed when I recheck...

This seems reasonable, I mucked an ace when i had 6443A in an A-5 triple draw game on UB a few days ago. Man was I pissed.
