View Full Version : Using PT to figure out if my cards have been unusually bad at six-max

Rather than do something constructive, I thought I might use pokertracker to figure out whether my cards have been especially cold at six-max recently.

Poker-tracker Pat confirms for me that I can look at last 5K hands or so and have it tell me how many times I've received pocket pairs and other particular starting hands. But I have no frame of reference here.

Can anyone tell me (or point me to a resource) that will indicate how often a person at six-max tables will get dealt pocket pairs, AK, etc, over the very long run?

Maybe I'll find out that my cards really have been particular horrendous recently, thereby giving me an excuse to continue my delusion of being a half decent player. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Ask in the probability forum. I could tell you, but I don't wanna do the math in my head. All you have to do is figure out the probability of getting AKo, and find out your expected value over 5k hands. Then you can use a confidence interval to find out how far off from the mean you would be. Seriously though, ask the probability forum.

Thanks, forgot about that forum. I'll send the question there.

I think this is right.

number of different 2 card combinations:
52 x 51 / 2 = 1326

pocket pairs can be made 6 ways so
1326 / 6 = 221
so every 221 hands you will get each pocket pair on avg 1 time

big slick can be made 12 ways offsuit 4 ways suited
1326 / 12 = 110.5
1326 / 4 = 331.5

220/1 for PPs

I tend to use this as a guide, look at all your hands and the number of times you have been dealt AA KK QQ JJ as they are the big money earners.
