The Mirage gives out one comp per week for a free buffet or $10 of a meal at a couple restaurants. The Bellagio has a similar system.

They are unbelievably cheap.

Wow, that is pretty cheap. At the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, players get $1 per hr for low limits and $2 an hr for 10-20 and above...I go like twice a month and have hundreds of comp dollars I can use on food, shows, rooms, etc at the restaurants there. Regular players should NEVER have to pay for food IMO.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised since the Mirage is owned my a corporation rather than an individual....

It has nothing to do with being owned by a corporation. All the small poker rooms on the Strip give reasonable comps. For example, the Monte Carlo gives $6 in comps for 4 hours of play. You can be comped every day. Circus Circus has a similar $5 comp and also have free food available at dinner time. It usually only something like chicken fingers but it's far better service than the Mirage or Bellagio offer.

Maybe it's just their corps policy....If you notice the strip casinos you mentioned are owned by the Mandalay Company. Mirage and Bellagio are owned by MGM/Mirage...and their comp policy has gotten more stingy since purchasing those casinos from Steve Wynn...I think it's even true in their pit games.

The post-Wynn change would make sense. The stock performed horribly under Wynn, and his lack of cost control was a huge reason. With better management, one would expect better cost control.

Still, anybody can get $42 in comps each week play 1-5 stud at the Monte Carlo whereas you can only get $10 in comps each week at the Mirage even if you're playing in their biggest games.

The Mirage and Bellagio are taking "cost control" too far.

That's why I like the Orleans players' card system. I think it is good to comp people by the hour, that way the regular players get more comps. If I go to the Mirage and give them 8 hours of play over a weekend in town, I get the same comp as the guy who puts in 50 hours there. Good for me, but a bad system. And I hate the line for comps at the Mirage. That is stupid.
