View Full Version : Should I get ripped a new one for doing this?

If you think so, lemme have it. I didn't expect an overcall, and had a feeling the original raiser was actually weak, based on previous play. Given my stack size, now it seems to me like it was a mistake, and that regardless of my readings, I invested too much. Looking back on it, I feel really stupid now. Any comments?

the raiser had more chips that you, it was on the bubble with a SHORT stack, and you had a drawing hand. I think this is an autofold.

I'm sure the shortstack wet himself when he saw that action.

would u have called had he pushed? this is essentially what he is doing. i haven't done ICM yet, but because of the SS, i'd assumer ICM would be negative.

After ICM, this is a clear fold, even if he is pushing w/ very loose standards (22+, A2+, K2+, Q9+), (which he should) this is a fold. Hell, ICM says fold QQ here too... So only call/reraise w/ AA/KK. That is why if YOU have the chiplead, go apechit.

Yeah, overlooking the short stack was unbelievably bone headed.

I have made this mistake before also.

I try to b more careful in situations like this now.

But once ITM, I am wild and will bust out 3rd many times while going for 1st with a good hand.

Is this really a bad move? I never thought twice about pushing here.

I looked at the ICM before and it puzzled me LOL. I'm going to have to poke around with it.

Thanks for the post; I went a little goofy today I think. Regardless of ICM, all I should have just noticed that short stack about to go out and just sat back from there.

I think the chance of my winning in this situation was actually pretty good, if nobody else overcalled. But the short stack alone was almost guaranteed to bounce out and put me in the money if I had just bided my time a little longer. I'd do this same thing in a limit ring game in a second, but it seems to be a mistake here. I think this probably is showing that I still habitually think in terms of limit ring game considerations, which is the only type of poker I've really had experience with. I've got to watch out that my situational awareness regarding stack sizes and ICM doesn't just go by the wayside while I'm thinking of other parts of the game.

Yeah this might put you out in 4th, but I think WAY more often you are ahead here and it will skyrocket your chipcount giving you a much higher % of placing 1st than if you'd just fold into 3rd.

Even if you are ahead 100% of the time, you won't win 100% of the pots.
