View Full Version : Avoid Vegas during WSOP?

Ok, about 8 of us are planning to go to Vegas, in the late June/early July time frame. Mostly for general Vegas fun, some poker, but mostly low limit. None of us will be playing in any WSOP tourneys or satellites.

The question is - what will room rates be like during the WSOP? Will only the Rio and surrounding be high, or all around?

For low limit games (5/10 and under), will they be swamped due to the players there for the WSOP?

I'm guessing yes, but I don't have any experience with Vegas during the WSOP. Any advice from people who have gone would be appreciated.

The WSOP is a month long and takes place at One casino (the Rio), except for the final big game, when the final table will be moved back to Binions.

Your question sounds kind of silly when considering the scope of the events. The annswer to your question is really obvious however when you think about all the trade shows that take place there. I once attended Magic, over 90,000 attendees. I think Vegas can handle it /images/graemlins/blush.gif

PS: There is a thread about a bunch of us 2+2'ers heading to Vegas during WSOP time. Check it out..

The WSOP doesn't make a dent in Vegas. There are conventions every week that bring many times more people to town, and they don't make a dent either. Vegas is built to handle crowds.

I was in town the week of last year's finals, and the wait in the other rooms didn't seem any worse than it has on a normal week since the poker boom took off.

Good point. The Consumer Electronics Show in January dwarfs the WSOP in attendance.

There will be plenty of good games at all limits. It's now the only time of the year that I play B&M.

CES used to be the biggest, now it's Magic (thats when we met SSG, I was in town for that convention). 90,000 people in 4 days. Compare that to less than 10,000 people for the WSOP at it's peak.

Speaking of which, you better meet us the weekend of the June 17th, for some serious fun. Tell Howard as well if you see him.

First off, there are no 5/10 games in town. Its either 4/8 or 6/12.

Second, woulnd't it be better for the sea to be filled with fish?

I'm pretty sure it's the Nascar race in March, now. Qualifying was starting the day after I left last time, and the place was already lousy with fans.

The idea of 90,000 geeky Magic fanatics running around town makes me cringe.

Just remember this, every idiot in the universe who thinks he's a poker player should be here for that week. Now the high limit games may be tougher than normal, but the major players in town won't be playing low limit games! Five letters...

Yeah some friends of mine were leaving the day NASCAR started and they said it was insane.

But as for trade shows, whats up with a Mens Fashion TS being bigger then CES? CES has Pr0n!

Magic International is the worlds largest fashion industry trade show. Not Magic the gathering.

Yeah, I won't be missing this one.

Some of the best games you'll ever find are low-limit HE games filled with FPS 2+2'ers trying to outplay each other. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif
