Anyone know why 2+2 is allowing Metetron to advertise his guide with stolen information from the Bonuswhores forum? It's pretty outrageous imo.

Go to BW and look at the long thread they have about "Whoring the Mainstreet Group."

His guide basically copied the guide that the guy wrote in the thread verbatim.

Umm, could it be becuase he paid for the ad and the person from the Bw forum did not?

Does BW have a problem with it? If so they should probably contact 2+2 about getting it removed.

The Metetrons banner farm that he calls a webpage is also rather outdated... like the fact that an entire group he has listed DOUBLED their wagering requirement and he didn't make any changes. Though I suppose once they sign up, it's not his problem anymore. *EDIT* He also doesn't mention another bonus that increased many times it's original value...

Hogua, you're missing the point. 2+2 is allowing someone who has stolen content to advertise on their site.

The BW guy wrote the thread, therefore it is his material.
Stealing it and using it to profit is not only illegal - it's unethical.

Do you actually think 2+2 reviews every site submitted for advertising and cross-references it against all other web sites for possible plagiarism?

That's one of the reasons I brought it up. I believe it should be removed because of this and maybe this thread will bring this to the mods attention.

if you really don't like what's going down, then:

1) let 2+2 make money off the ad.

and/or

2) don't support the affiliate links.

the information provided isn't copyrighted and if someone thinks they can make money off of it enough to lay out a marketing investment in front and out of pocket, then go ahead and let them. I don't see a situation here where visitors are forced to financially compensate CW.com for any data listed on their site.

anything beyond that is just up to BW to decide.

Anything you post is yours. You can claim copyright on all of it. Though it was not necessary, MasterShakes could have claimed copyright on his post on BW and forced 2+2 to remove the stolen information.

Claimed copyright... lol, this is too much. It's information about a website for christ sakes... not top secret government files on how to create nuclear warheads. Me thinks the hardcore bonus whores not too happy about info being easily accessible and now advertised legitly.

Yes, it is slightly out of date. I haven't had a chance to fix it in the last week or two (I've been traveling a crapload). Anyways, I feel motivated to fix it all right now, so thanks for the motivation.

It's one thing to criticize the site for being out of date or inaccurate if you believe this is the case (it is for some of the more sensitive bonuses, though I am going to change that now). It's another to accuse someone of plagarism when this is obviously not the case. I'd welcome a suit if MasterShakes would like to file one; I need a good laugh. If not, stop making comments and posts like this one.

True, but not complete. Certain things are not copyrightable, certain things are considered public knowledge, certain exceptions exist for free use. In this case, you can't honestly tell me (if you have any knowledge of copyright law) that this is something that I'm going to get an intellectual property suit over? He found the website. I posted the websites on casinowhoring.com; it's like saying if I found some sites on google and posted links here I am guilty of copyright infringement...

Yes?

The info I put on my website isn't lifted directly or in spirit from MasterShakes post. It's pretty common knowledge how to avoid getting banned right away using the method outlined (used in sticky's all the time).

He did provide the links, however, not that this is anything which deserves credit.

An article I wrote for a website once was lifted and printed under someone elses name in a Philadelphia newspaper. Since it top-secret gov't stuff, this is ok in your book?

Researching information is not plagarism. I'm not trying to take sides here, just pointing out the obvious.

I'm not taking sides either -- I don't know the specifics at all -- but from what TM said upthread, there was a collection of links that he, uh, "borrowed". It's possible that that could be considered a "database or collection of information" (http://www.copyright.gov/docs/regstat092303.html). Then again, maybe not.

Just report his affiliate links for spamming. Get his accounts closed. Then he can go back to Burger King. Nobody makes fries like Metetron.

You kids are silly. Anyone who posts casino whoring information in a forum should consider it free knowledge. Really, like that other feller said, improve you're poker game and stop being a worry wort. I don't know what I'm doing wasting MY time here.

Anyone know why 2+2 is allowing Blackjack to slander another person in a public forum by calling him a theif? It's pretty outrageous imo.

The truth is this guy wants no info post/read on 2+2 becuase he feels that it has a negative effect on his earning potential. After posting a few weeks ago about a bonus i got theis PM from him minutes later [ QUOTE ]

Just a tidbit:
EVERY work created by ANYONE is automatically protected by copyright law. They don't need to apply, they don't need to have a nifty little (C) symbol, or anything, it IS protected. As to whether or not, in this case, the information is free-use.. That is the only question in my mind.

Databases cannot be copywritten at this time. Hence why any company can compile and then re-sell the data in the phone book without permission. There is no plagerisim, there was no theft. Case closed.

None of which applies in your case. Be a man and just say you stole the information and you don't care what anybody thinks about it. Don't try to weazel out of it by arguing copyright issues because you clearly don't know what you are talking about in that domain.

Perspective from an IP law student:

The original content was copyrighted (as is ANY original written work -- no need for application / approval >> it is copyrighted).

Metetron's use, if more or less verbatim...and any single sentence lifted verbatim would definitely qualify, although i haven't looked at his page...is copyright infringement, no ifs ands or buts.

Whether the original author chooses the file suit is the real issue -- in this case, I really can't see it being worth his while to do so (sure he might get an injunction, but it would be tough to claim substantial damages), but he's got an open and shut copyright infringement case if he chooses.

BradleyT
04-24-2005, 02:33 PM
I wouldn't worry about it too much as there's really no way to prove damages. But perhaps there is a way to prove that it was used for financial gain.

However when it comes to stealing images, there's been a crackdown lately.
