I'll give you 10 to 1 odds that there are at least 3 people who do.

you think there are at least 3 people on 2+2 that have a birthday on november 18th? and you are willing to give 10 to 1? whats the time limit for finding them? how do they prove it?

i hate to bump this thread, but there was a poll recently where people voted on their birthday. that is probably what he was referring to as his source.

I guess the 1/365 chance hit. Now if you say 1977..that'd be strange.

The original post said "Does anyone have the same birthday as me? November 18".

It was not limited to the 2+2 crowd.

In a random group of 30 people, I believe the odds of two people having the same birthday are 50-50.

I think it's actually 30 people = 30% chance of at least 2 have same b-day.

OP is asking about a specific date, his own birthdate, and whether or not another person has the same birthday. Other people have talked about a group of people and whether or not 2 of them have the same birthday.

Totally different things

Actually, you're both wrong. In a group of 23 people, the probability that some two have the same birthday is > .5.

And this is why it's a great prop bet if you know the odds.

Really? That seems high, can you show the math? (I'm sure it's really simple, but I'm slow)

I would've guessed 21 would be the number just from quick arithmatic. What am I missing?

Nevermind. Just worked out 21 and it's ~44.346 that two people have the same. So 23 sounds about right.

OK, I meant to subtract .3 from 1 to get .7 for 30 people /images/graemlins/laugh.gif (.71 actually)

For 21 people:

(345.25/365.25 * 346.25/365.25 * 347.25/365.25...)^-1

My fathers birthday is Nov 17. But depending on what time of day each of you were born, you could have been born close the same time.
