What's the deal with MySpace

I guess I'm behind on what is popular on the internet, and I hadn't heard of MySpace until a couple days ago (there was an article in the paper). What's up with this thing? I checked it out for the hell of it and it seems there are tons of chics that are into this. Any of you out there avid MySpacers?
