Hour 2 of a Party Player's Club tournament.

Hero is BB with image: very tight; folding constantly.
Villain is Button with image: somewhat loose and aggressive; likes to steal blinds.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (9 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J/images/graemlins/spade.gif, J/images/graemlins/club.gif.
6 folds, Button raises to t600, 1 fold, Hero raises to t2000, Button calls t1400.

I was surprised he called.... I have to reassess his possible holdings....

Flop: (t4100) 8/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 2/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 9/images/graemlins/spade.gif (2 players)
Hero bets t1800, Button raises to t7350 (All-In), Hero????

I bet myself into a jam. On the flop, I wanted to make a serious enough bet for him to fold with nothing, and to show him that I was willing to go all-in. But in truth, I didn't want to go all-in and risk the whole tournament when the blinds were still fairly low compared to my stack. I was pissed I had put myself in this spot. I went with 1800.

Again, he surprised me with his push.

Your thoughts on my earlier plays, and what you would do at this point.

Brutal, but I think that there is enough of a chance that this is a bluff/flush draw that you gotta call.

There is also the runner-runner straight suck-out option, which I can highly recommend from personal experience.

Edit: I just saw that this was a free-roll. Call 100%.

I'd put him on 9x of hearts and call.

You have t1800 left to win a pot of t10000 with an overpair. You didn't lay this down, did you?

BTW, after I put in a third of my stack with JJ preflop against button, I check-call his all-in bet on 95% of boards.

I like check-calling, except in this case I don't want to give a free card to a draw - like 9x of hearts, as the other poster mentioned.

Preflop: Do you think reraising 1/3rd of my chips was a mistake?

Hi.

What does Villain's open raise of 3BB mean? You said he's been stealing blinds. Has he done that with 3BB raises? Does he vary his button open raises? Can you put him on a range of hands based on his raise amount? I see quite a few players make smaller raises with a premium hand, and raise more on a steal. If he was in front of you PF, then surely he would have put you all-in. Maybe he got lucky and hit a set?

In your position, with the pot bigger than your stack, I would just push on the flop.

He seemed to be pretty consistent with his 3BB steal attempts. I agree that he would most likely re-reraise me all-in PF if he had QQ, KK, or AA. So I doubted he had those, and that factored into my postflop play.

I was really only worried about a set, or some really stupid play by him that gave him 2 pair or something.

Results:

6 folds, Button raises to t600, 1 fold, Hero raises to t2000, Button calls t1400.

Hero bets t1800, Button raises to t7350 (All-In), Hero calls t1808 (All-In).

Turn: (t15058) 5/images/graemlins/spade.gif (2 players, 2 all-in)

River: (t15058) 5/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (2 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: t15058

Results:

Hero has Js Jc (two pair, jacks and fives).
Button has Ad Kh (one pair, fives).
Outcome: Hero wins t11316. Button wins t3742.

MHIG.

I think it was a clear call, considering the potsize as others have mentioned.

My biggest concern is if I made a -EV mistake PREFLOP.

Just remember that preflop, made hands are always a favorite to drawing hands. Even if he has big slick suited, you're good. See:

The fact that he raised from the button means his hand could have anything trying to represent something large. Your raise was probably a good idea (it turned out to be good for sure) at least it made you find out where you stood. AA or KK would have gone over the top all-in since your stack was getting so small compared to what was in the pot and he had you covered.
