My father who is 83 was working in his garden last Sat. and woke up Sun. with severe pain in his right arm and leg.

I took him to the doctor Mon.The doctor prescribed Tramadol for the pain.

Between Mon and Thursday my father developed instant senility and lost his ability to walk.

I confiscated the Tramadol at 2;00Pm thursday.

He is a lot better at 2:30Am Fri.

Do not give this drug to old peope or any one else.

Thanks Robert

Dude I really hope for your father's sake this is a joke.

On the off chance that you are indeed serious, please please get your father immediate medical attention. Side affects are not an excuse to shun the entire medical community.

It made me sick for like 4 days when I ODed on it. I slept 22 hours/day for 4 days and I could barely move. I took twice what I was supposed to.

Supposedly it's not addictive. That is the biggest lie ever, it's almost as addictive as oxy, it just doesn't make some people as sick to their stomach.

I am serious. I wish I had called the 1st Aid this afternoon But he was somewhat irrational and refused to go to a doctor.

Then I read the flyer that the druggist puts in with the prescription .

Side Effects: Dizziness, weakness, inccoordination, drowsiness, anxi ety, increased sweating mental confusion, disorientation ,trouble breathing plus a whole host of others that did not apply in this case.

He is improving hourly since I took him off the Tramadol.

Any ideas for a MD in the Covington Virginia area.

They all suck since DR. Clatterbaugh retired.

Dude, I don't have a clue but I would think that since your father had such a bad reaction to this particular medication a better approach would be to seek out an alternative medication or a second opinion on treatment.

I do not know, but I suspect that the original doctor had a valid reason to prescibe the medication in the first place and that these reasons should not be readily dismissed.

I'm surprised that he was prescribed Tramadol - what dosage?

"If you are over 75 years of age, you may be more likely to experience side effects from tramadol. The maximum daily dose of tramadol for people over 75 years of age is 300 mg."

300mg a day ? From what I can tell he may have taken 6 50mg tablets between 12 midnight and 12:30 pm.

Thanks all.

DrunkBob---If he is experiencing side effects like that, contact the doctor ASAP.

mason55---you are wrong on so many different levels, I don't know where to start. I suggest looking up "agonist" and "antagonist." Also, if you slept for 22 hours a day, it certainly wasn't from Tramadol. You were probably really sick or something.

Of course it's addictive, it's an opioid. They are either addictive, or don't work at all.

My first reaction to all this was that he had a stroke, which would explain the whole thing. I hope you've had him checked out thoroughly. Best wishes on his speedy recovery.

The new Md says the pain was from bursitus(sp.) with a urinary blockage between the bladder and the tip of the penis. This resulting in a full bladder that would not let the kidneys drain.

He will have a cather(sp.)installed to relieve the pressure on the kidneys.
