Well.. after starting at .05/10c in early march ive finally passed the 300 BB threshold to move up to $1/$2. I progressed through all the levels at paradise poker in between including 10c/20c 25c/50c and 50/1. So far I've made it through each threshold after about 5-10k hands. I'm pretty worried that I'm running extremely well right now (4-5bb/100) and i would assume my standard win rate will normally be no where near this level. Just wondering if there are any substantial differences when moving up to 1/2. I was told this is the first "big" jump in play in micro limits. Thanks.

If there is a jump, the biggest hurdle is the fact that you have to look down at 50$ at the table that you can potentially lose, which for the first time seems like a decent sum. If you can get past the pychological aspects, however, you will find marginally better opponents at random tables and very similar players to .5/1 at tables that are carefully chosen. You'll learn fast that it is hard work finding loose 1/2 tables during the day as well.
One observation I have made at 1/2 is that players tend to be more loose/passive on later streets than in .5/1. Bad opponents don't want to fold their shot at winning pots that routinely hit 40$, and they also want to minimize their risk, so value betting becomes much more profitable on the turn and river.

I read a lot of posts in the archives about this particular topic and didn't move up til my BR hit $4k. I say you move up whenever you're ready to take 200BB downswings.

what? You moved up to 1/2 when you had 2000BBB? Are you kidding? you're talking about 200BB downswings like they're a regular occurrence. They're not.

What I meant was when he's mentally prepared to lose 200BB (probably going to be a big portion of his BR). And yea, I move up when I feel like moving up

That I agree with. 1/2 is a cake game to beat, but I'll be the first to admit I dropped over $300 in my first 10k hands. When you look at it from the higher limits, the differences are minimal, but when you're there, it sure does when losing 6BB in a pot means 12 dollars gone.
