View Full Version : What a day...

/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I experienced the meaning of the word "variance" and saw $50 of my bankroll disappear (30BB at $0.5/$1 and 20BB at $0.25/$0.50).

I won't bother posting the set-over-set or the getting beat by the guy who goes runner-runner flush after calling two cold because his 10-7 was "sooted".

What I am concerend about is folding potential winners. Any comments are appreciated.

Hand 1:

My read on the SB is that she likes painted cards and will call with any Ace, King, Queen or Jack. She will bet top pair in front of a pre-flop raiser. Hence the fold. Do I grit my teeth and call down anyways?

Hand 2:

This epitomizes my day with offsuit overcards, raising preflop and missing the flop. There were times when I called down on ragged flops only to be shown a small pair after the checking through the river.

Hand 3:

No reads, new player sat down, but thinks he is one of those who falls in love with painted cards as well. Once the J hits, I was done. If the Jack is a /images/graemlins/club.gif I call the turn bet.

In hand 2 you gave up waaaaaay too fast. I'd raise the flop.

Hand 1: Raise this flop, don't give him credit for the king just yet. Call his 3-bet and fold the turn UI.

Hand 2: Weak yet again. Raise this, looking for a cheap river card.

Hand 3: This is good.

Also, 50BB loss is not variance, this is normal poker. I regularly drop 50BB-80BB, only to make it back. Its poker.

Hand 1: With those reads I say good laydown.

Hand 2: Raise for a free card.

Hand 3: Peel off another card and fold turn UI.

UI is going to happen 45/47 of the time (42.5/47 if you count your runner runner 9 flush and runner runner 2 gapper) - with the ace and 3 others I think this is an easy check-fold (but if you want to play with the ace out there you HAVE to raise - calling is TERRIBLE). This is why I hate raising 99 PF - it is so tough to play post-flop with no set.

Yup, seeing the poker conversion, I miscounted the pot odds and thought they were in the range of 5 to 1.

Hand 1: Do I fold the turn UI after raising the flop and the SB bets into me again?
