Right now I am playing the $5+1 SNG's at Party(I am trying to build a bankroll, then move up to the $10+1 SNG's ASAP)

The play at the $5 SNG's is terrible, can I expect more of the same at the $10+1's?

Yes, pretty much the same.
Except theres typically an all-in 1st or 2nd hand in a 5+1.
They wait a little bit for that in a 10+1.

Play is terrible in both.

Just skip the 5.5s and move up to the 11s.

Disagree. The play at the 5's is ALWAYS terrible. At the 10's its sometimes terrible but sometimes you can run into a few decent players.

play a ton of both one night, try not to notice which is which and see how you are doing on either after 50 each or so.

My experience:

At the $5s - 1 or 2 decent players, rest awful
At the $10s - anywhere from 2 to 4 decent players, 2 weak-tight but OK players and rest awful

So, yeah, I think the $10s are a little more competitive than the $5s.

I think the 10's are a bit better than the fives, but you can get people to fold in the 10's easier. 5's are better for waiting for people to kill themselves and walking into the money, but you'll get calls on your bluffs all the time, so you can get snapped off easy that way. 10's you have to fight for your money more instead of just walking into it when everyone implodes from their own bad play or gets eaten by blinds. But that's no real problem; if you're good enough to beat the 5's, you can beat the 10's too. There's not a big skill difference going on. You will occasionally bump into better players, though, which is not something you see all that much at the 5's.

I'm doing better in the 10's than I did in the 5's, and I only started playing SNG's (more than like one a month) just a few weeks ago. The lower rake alone means you can actually do worse at the 10's and probably still do better than you would in the 5's.

A week or so ago I started a thread about this called something like Should Newbies Skip the 5+1's, or something like that. Lots of great replies on it; you really should check it out. It's probably half a dozen or more pages back by now.

I havent played in the 6s, but the answer i suppose its more idiots on the 6s, less rake in the 11s. But really just play the 11s and build ur bankroll there.

There should be ZERO bluffing on your part going down at the 5's because there is no hope in hell of it working. This can be good/bad depending on the cards your dealt that game. Another thing I found is it's a whole lot easier to put people on hands at the 10s, where most decisions have an ounce of logic, where at the 5s, often I'm left wondering.

Moving up depends oh how big your bankroll is.

I would move up as soon as you are comfortable with the size of your bankroll. The 20% rake takes too big of a chunk out of your winnings.

That said, I have heard the play at 5+1 is significantly worse than on any other level. But the 10+1's are still very beatable as long as you play solid poker.

start at $50's or don't play and save your money. or play the 20-30's multi table (2-3 table tournies).. .i make a killing on those.

Yeah, if you're bankroll is < $200, I'd stay away from the 10s, and just play the 5's on a site with a lower rake. UB, Pacific, and I think Prima have $5 + $.50

What does SNG stand for?

OK, now that I've betrayed my ignorance, may I ask are there NL HE tournaments with an entry fee of just $1, or even less?

If so, which poker sites have them quite regularly, such as daily, how regular are these games, and how many people are in these tournaments?

By way of explanation, I'm brand-new to poker, with 1,274 stored hands from PokerStars, where I limit to NL HE ring games at the 1/2 cents level. I'm there because I prefer to learn with low stakes, but I really aspire to playing in poker tournaments. Of course, once again I want to learn to play in tournaments with stakes as low as possible.

I'll appreciate very much any help, from anyone!
