6 players left in shootout at the 1st table

you are in BB with AK suited (hearts)

Blinds are 15/30

mid pos player calls 30 (2000 chips)
late pos player calls 30 (4000 chips)
SB calls 30 (1000 chips)
BB me has AK suited raises to 150 (5x the blind) (3000 chips)

do u think the 5X raise was good?

Evey calls the 150 except the SB

FLOP is As Ks Qs

With AK , I open the pot for 1000 chips.

mid player folds
late player raise all in

I call
and he flips over Jc10c for a sraight and a winner.

How bad did I play it and how could I played it differently?

I did not figure a J10 would stay around for the flop but he did fine. But how does he go all in with a flush on board?

Look at it from his point of view.

If I were him I'd go all in as well. The only hands he has to worry about on the flop are suited spade connectors. All the other premium hands you might raise with he has a big edge over, even if you have a set or two pair.

AK - 77/17 favorite
AA/KK/QQ - 60/34 favorite
JJ/TT - 54/38 favorite.

There's nothing wrong with your preflop raise, I'd have done the same.

On the flop, however, I think you made to big of an overbet (twice the pot). If I were your opponent, I'd put you on 2 pair or a set who is deathly afraid of the flush.

By betting so much you pot commit yourself and villain knows that and puts you all in.

I'd have bet 50-75% of the pot to see where I'm at (200-300). When the villain goes all in, you have the optino to fold and still have 2500 chips.

Try to think what hands he has to go all in with that would call a 5xbb raisepreflop.

The best case scenario is that he has a pocket pair with 1 spade.

You are a very slight favorite (52/47) against JJ/TT if he has a spade.

You are a slightly bigger favorite (60/38)if he has 99 or less with a spade.

Against suited spade connectors, AA/KK/QQ or any JT you are a major underdog.

Are there times when opponent is trying to bluff you based on a very scary flop? Certainly, especially in a tourney situation, where he can bust you.

But I think the majority of times you call in this situation you are going to be playing catch up, which isn't a fun place to be.

I put him on A pair with either a flush or straight draw.

If he was on either I would still be a Favorite.
And if I was him with either of those hands I would go all in as well

Overall, I THINK I did the right thing with a good hand and a tough flop.

You over bet the flop, pot committing yourself and removing your options. You have to call after that getting 2-1. Not terrible if you judge the other players to be a lot better than you.
