We all know that 7-2 offsuit is the worst hand in Hold 'em. But what would the worst starting hand be in stud? I was thinking maybe Q-7-2 offsuit. Am I right?

237 rainbow looks worse to me, at least with a high card you have something....Even though you can make a straight with this hand it looks terrible!

To me, that's like saying that 2-3 offsuit is the worst hand in Hold'em, because at least you could make something with the seven. I remember reading in a book that J-7-2 rainbow was the worst hand in Stud, but you could make the 7 to Jack straight.

your example doesn't really make sense. Is Q2 better than 72? Certainly is. Why? A pair of queens holds up more than 7's. Simple as that. Not to be a jerk, but the worst hand in Stud is completely relative because of the cards that are out. J72 could be a favorite of AQK if most of the AQK were dead. All you have to know is to not play the bad ones.

Q72 is pretty awful, but you can hit the Queen to make it a decent hand on fourth. There is nothing in, say, 962 for you to hit. Andrew Prock did a ranking of stud/8 hands, and if I recall correctly, Q93 was at the bottom of that heap.

Say you were able to determine the worst stud hand. So what?

In a multi-way pot, yes. Heads up, 32o is the worst hand, much worse than 72o.

least 25% of small bet and all of your 3 starting cards are completely live, then the hand IS playable. It doesn't make any difference what 3 cards u have.
Stud is a game of big cards. However,it is also a game of LIVE cards. IF U have 3 big cards that are completely dead, then this hand is NOT playable for the 25% SB ante.
In big ante games,LIVLINESS is the key to whether to play or not.

Bull, this is just wrong. Not only do you have to make a hand, it has to be the best hand. Q72 and the like just isn't going to make the best hand often enough to make it worth limping in with, even if the ante is half of the small bet.
