Hey all!

Ya know, I don't have a solid definition for this one...

Anyone shove me toward a link or an example?

Thanks

I may be way off but here's my attempt at it

I think its where you can make a bet large enough to get someone to fold, for instance say the binds are 3k/6k and you have a 7500 stack, you have very little fold equity, since you can't really bet enough to make someone fold.

I think fold equity is range of bet it would take for someone to fold.

Hopefully one of the vets here can help us out.

Thanks.

I thought something like that. They are using it a lot
lately in Limit posts, so I assume it relates to odds somehow
as well. Keep posting...!

Tks

Quick and Dirty:

At each stage of a hand, you have a certain amount of Equity.

Lets say there is 100$ in the pot.
Given the cards in your hand, your position, etc. You have a certain amount of equity in the pot.

Lets say you will win 30% of the time, if the hand is checked down. Your current equity in the pot is 30$.

Now if you bet, you now have 2 chances to win. Your original 30% based on the cards, and the chance that everyone else will now fold. Let say that 10% of the time that you bet, everyone will fold. Then you will have 10$ in fold equity if you bet.

So given this example

check-calling: 30$ equity in the pot
bet-raise: 30% of the pot size if opponent calls + 10% of 100$.

Hope this helps

if you play on the internet, fold equity is a myth.

Shhhhh......
Fold Equity is very valuable, whenever you are in a pot with me, you should always raise your crap hands, to take advantage of it.

Fold Equity is something you can really use to your advantage after playing with people for a long time - giving you a better read on there actions.

In my experience, fold equity is most relevant in SnGs. This is because the blinds become enormous in comparison to the stacks. Since blind stealing is such an important part of correct SnG strategy, this term is used often. When your stack is so short that you only have 2-3BB, you don't have much fold equity because people know you are desperate and pushing all in isn't a huge showing of strength.
