30 person tournament - top 5 Pay. 7 Left
I am in first, he is in 3rd. (2nd has about 7,000)
I have around $10,500. I am the SB.
BB has $5,200
Blinds are 100/200 (no ante)
1 limp to me, and I complete with 8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 6 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
Flop comes K /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 6 /images/graemlins/spade.gif 4 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
I check, he bets out $1000, limper folds - I push
Good play?

Thanks - I had read about this, so I wanted to give it a try.
Turns out he had K /images/graemlins/club.gif 9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif.
He called my all in.
Turn brought the 2 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
River broght the T /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
I got berated by pushing all in on " a draw", but I thought it was a good play, just wanted to make sure.
FYI - I still took 2nd, and knocked the villian out in 3rd, when my overpair beat his TPGK.

It's always more fun to be berated by the fishes though /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I aways mark those guys "will not lay down TP any kicker", a check raise is very profitable against them.
I think your play is far better calling off your whole stack with top pair bad kicker and a weak back door draw.

I think your play is far better than open limping , and procedeing to call off your whole stack with top pair bad kicker and a weak back door draw.

Just out of curiousity - how would you play this hand if the chips were reversed? and you have 5000 - and 3rd place, and he had 10,000 and 1st place?

Definitely the same.
With him as big stack, he is even more likely to stab at the pot and try to bully you off.

I think playing the hand that way is correct, You have fold equity and a strong hand. I dont think that those stack amounts would change the way I played it.
If I had Like 2500 I would more than likly open push the flop.

I would probably have folded pre-flop if the chip stacks are reversed.
Why go to battle against the chip leader with such a weak hand when you are going to be out of position?
