Lets suppose you are an American living in the time of the war, and for some reason your country need volunteers.

If your country needs you to enlist then do you enlist?

War is perhaps the closest thing to hell that we have on this planet. I don't know how I would respond to going in to it.

I enlisted in the Army once, I don't know if I would ever enlist just to go to war. However if I was drafted (which I assume would happen if I was truly needed) or something I would of course go without (much) bitching.

All depends on my perception of the war. If I think it is a just war, then yes I would sign up, but it would probably be very difficult to determine how the truth of the war coincides with my own personal moral code because of propaganda and a lack of reliable information.

In world war II, looking back now I would say hands down that I would fight, but at the time it might not have been clear as to what Hitler was really doing.

Yeah, because the invasion of a couple countries isnt enough evidence of what was going on.....

So what do you all think of that new statue in a Canadian town which commemerates the town's acceptance of many Vietnam deserters? The statue is of a canadian offering his hand to two americans who did not want to fight in Vietnam.

WWII I would volunteer to participate only in a non combat capacity.

I would never volunteer to (or agree to if drafted) participate in an illegal war.

Depends on the reason for the war for me.

Maybe? What the hell do you mean "maybe"? After all your bitching about the new Pope being a Hitler youth and saying you'd be first in line for the gas chamber? Your full of [censored]. You'd resist joining Hitler's army but you won't fight against it? Pathetic... /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'd fight the Nazis.

The German army, otoh, is a different story. They were very different from the SS frankfurters/krauts.

But what about the war with Iraq?

I'll bite. It qualifies as a war i would never participate in in any capacity.

This poll is so obviously "loaded" that I'm not going to vote.

Fighting against tyranny and oppression is one thing that I will always do,

Fighting against an enemy that has never done any harm to me nor my country is something I will never do.

So you wouldn't fight Nazis that killed millions of innocent people just because they didn't directly attack you or your country? How do you sleep at night? /images/graemlins/frown.gif
