Japanese ryokan

Has anyone ever stayed in one of these? It's a traditional style Japanese inn. I'll be in Tokyo in 2 weeks and I'm looking for recommendations. Let me know if you stayed in one and if you had a good exerience. Thanks.

Scrubette's parents stayed in one a month or so ago.

They seemed pretty freaked out by the whole experience. If you every feel uncomfortable with fussy restaurant service, you will definitely not enjoy it--the interactions with hotel staff sounded downright invasive.
