I eat mostly Mandarin style but listing a Cantonese dish is fine. I usually eat the same old stuff and I want to try something new and tasteful. If I pick your dish and like it, I'll transfer you the amount of the dish through NeTeller. Obviously, if you pick a really expense dish on purpose I probably won't try it unless it sounds really, really good.

So, what's your favorite chinese dish?

problem is some chinese restaurants screw this dish up big time and its not even as close to as good as it should be. I would only get it if I was in a really authentic chinese restaurant.

If you like spicy get Firecracker Chicken or Shrimp Curry.

If you're not in the mood for spicy I would recommend Sesame Chicken or Chicken w/ Mushroom.

im not sure if this counts, since ive only seen them in one restaurant, and the owners are not from mainland china but from Hong Kong. they are ginger chicken hotpot and green onion beef hotpot. i could probably find the authentic mandarin name next time i go. they win this thread easily

What are the things that you usually try? Is it like Broccoli Beef and Fried Rice? Also, where are you going? If it's Panda Express it's not going to make a heck of a lot of difference.

Anyway, one thing that I've grown very fond of is a chow mein dish that's served "hong kong" style. It's a crispy noodle and a gravy on top of it. I'd say where ever you go ask for "House chow mein, hong kong style."

I found out (from a Chinese restaurantuer whose Kung Pao chicken is da bomb) that most (at least in the US) Chinese places are "Hunan" style, but the good "authentic" (i.e., just chicken and peanuts, not a teeny bit of chicken and a sh*tload of vegetables) version is "Schezuan" (sp?). Schezuan tends to be more basic in terms of number of ingredients, heavily relies on sauce or marinade, is more spicy, and generally (IMO) better.

PF Changs is the only national chain I know of that it Schezuan-style (and generally the only one you'll find outside of a Chinatown/Little Asia area)

I looked it up. Apparently it's been around for a long time in several Asian countries including Japan, China (Hong Kong), Singapore, and Korea. Japan is the largest consumer of shark fins for this purpose.

Peking duck at a good place where they remove that layer of fat for you is quite good. Sometimes they'll serve it kinda like moo shu stuff but with only the duck, the skin, and that moo shu sauce stuff.

I've had a whole sea bass thing before that is really good. You basically rip the fish right off the carcass, and depending on the method of preparation the skin can be crispy. Good stuff.

I think those are my favorites.

mongolian beef - hey, it's the best dish this little chinese dive serves (even if it is called mongolian beef)...my GF loves the special house fried rice - oh, the jokes she has to endure when she orders it (from me)
