I'm thinking about making the trek to Coushatta for some $3-6-12 hold'em this weekend. What have the games been like lately? Any tips/insight you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Was there this past weekend and played 3/6 a couple of times while waiting for 10/20 or 15/30. They had 3 tables of 3/6 going friday and probably 5 or 6 going saturday. After the rake there is relly no money to be made in those games, but the higher limits or another story. One guy dropped over $4500 in the 15/30 in less than 5 hours. Yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I posted a respectable win. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

What's the $10/20 like? The $15/30? Are all the games the same except for the chip denominations? What about the rake at those levels? I have the bankroll to play higher but have the perception that the talent level generally increases around the $10/20 level. Is that true in Coushatta?

Rake is 10% with $4 max and $1 drop for the jackpot. Generally speaking the 15/30 is a tough game. At times it has a fish or two or even three in it, but you have to know the regulars who could play that level anywhere. Now the 10/20 is weaker than the 15/30 but still a step up from 3/6. My advice would be if you are a successful 3/6 player there take $400-$500 and put it in the 10/20 game, play tight aggressive, and see what happens. It is definitely not as tough as 10/20 in Vegas. In the game I played Saturday there were 3 terrible players, 3 excellent players, a couple of rocks, and a couple of terrified looking guys who looked like they were trying to step up from 3/6 without a bankroll. It was a must move game and it broke up about 12:30am when 2 of the 3 terribles went broke and the 2 scared guys didn't like the idea of shorthanded. In the 15/30 I'll even tell you two first names to avoid Joe (big guy with beard), and John (about 5'8" 60ish glasses very clean cut). Both are excellent players( and will be your "best" friend at the table to put you at ease while they take your money), lol. The 10/20 has a more varied line up, but is definitely a beatable game at almost all times. I play both games, but am considering not playing the 15/30 any more unless it looks really juicy as my wins are larger and more consistent in the 10/20. Make sense? Hope this helps.

At least a full day's drive south of you, in western Louisiana.

Thanks for your replies. I generally beat the $5/10 games at other casinos, the quality of which games I perceive to be somewhat higher than $3/6. How much of a step-up from a typical $5/10 game would the $10/20 Coushatta games be?

The $3-6-12 games at the Coushatta are sloppy no fold em games with tons of terrible weak players. Despite the rake (which is 10% $5 max with a $1 jackpot) you can make money in these games. The variance is high though as you will see so many 2-3 outers and suckouts that it will make your head spin.

I have considered playing the 10-20 there - but the 10-20 is a 10-20-40 game which right now is a little to high for me. If it was a structured 10-20 game then i would play. The last time I was at the Coushatta though, they did have a regular 10-20 game going but I stopped and watched it (it was saturday afternoon) and it looked pretty rough so I stayed out of it.

Overall though, the lower limit games should be taken as fun and entertainment. I've left Lake Charles up $400 for a weekend and down $200 playing in that game. The last time I went I had everything cracked - if I hadn't had one of my good friends sitting at the table with me he would have never believed it if I would have told him. It was horrible, but that's what happens in those types of games. I came back up and got even the next night and should have left but my friends were still playing so I decided to keep on going despite the fact that I was tired. I just sat there and leaked most of my winnings away and decided to leave when I had AA beaten by KK. Fortunately, the old lady playing KK didn't charge me NEAR what she should have. I raised pre-flop and she called and then check called me the entire way through until she hit a K on the river and then bet into me. Nice. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Anyway, if you go down - be prepared to enjoy yourself just playing some cards. The games are loose with at least 6 or 7 in every flop. When you hear that, it makes you lick your chops - but patience is the key - and even then, you could still get kicked in the ass.

Good Luck.
