I think it depends on the game, but there are advantages to both.
Isn't it nice to raise preflop with AQo and knock out T8s, cause you have that kind of respect? But isn't it always nice to keep that player in when you have KQs, of the same suit? I like to keep the table guessing.
There are only two casinos I can play poker at, in the area, and the one is about half the distance. I play there a lot, and play with a lot of the same people. I have to mix up my play. I like to buy in for 10-15 bbs, and if winning, color up often, so later when the new regulars come in, they think I'm not doing so good, or just breaking even. That way, they think I'm only playing predictable hands and what not.
I don't think a lot of players consider their image at the table. I notice some who get mad and noticeably are on tilt. I see some who seem emotionless. Some who never show a bad hand or anything. I think you can improve your hourly rate by quite a bit by having a table image that fits the situation correctly. I want bad/average players to go at me, bet and raise me, call me down.
For me, having the image is being a losing player, is a better money maker.

i think youre right that people will make marginal calls against you if youre perceived as weak, but heh make sure you want that and thats only the weak players the tough ones will raise you , heh
