i'm buying my first suit tomorrow. is it possible to buy a suit where you can wear the jacket and/or pants seperately, or will it always just look like you're wearing half a suit?

is getting a tailored suit worth it? i'm pretty short (5' 6.5", 150) and often have trouble finding clothes that fit well. i'm probably looking to spend ~$300-400.

not sure if tailored will be in the budget but 3-4 should be able to pick you up nice thread...

If its a pinstripe then it probably wouldnt be wise to mix and match but a solid will look just fine unless the texture is apparently off...

just go to men's warehouse...they can answer all these questions for you.

as far as the pant/jacket seperate thing...the pants would be okay to wear with just a shirt/tie, but not usually the jacket....oh, they will tell you that you can pair your suit jacket with dockers, but don't fall for that crap lest you turn out like this guy (http://www.josbank.com/Images/Catalog/ProductImages/1632e.jpg)

go to mens warehouse. you will be able to get something respectable that fits well for your price.

For your first suit go the Men's Wearhouse. You don't have to tell them anything. Just say how much you want to spend and they'll pick everything for you, and do a better job than you would.

New NYSE rules required that this be disclosed up front.

You can get away with wearing the pants but don't try to play the jacket off as a sportcoat. Men's Warehouse is cheap and they will tailor the suit for you.

I'll echo the Men's Wearhouse comments. If you tell them specifically that it's your first suit, they will almost certainly by default set you up with something relatively straightforward (probably navy, maybe charcoal) that can be used separately without looking particularly weird. They'll also handle whatever alterations you need. The suits they are likely to show you will probably run about $300 +/- $50.

Meh, my posts probably should have more actual content in them.

Also, my first reaction to this thread was also to buy stock in MW. Anyone researched it?

I just went to Macy's and got a nice Hugo Boss suit. I wear the jacket regularly when going out with jeans. It's nice.

Haven't worn the pants on their own yet.

According to the style gurus suit pants cannot be worn sans jacket.
