View Full Version : Can I beat the 109s 8 tabling? What about 7 tables?

I see so many posts about "If I am x at y level, can it get to a at b level?" and "is level z as hard as I think?". Well, I can't really tell you. I used to wonder about these things too, until I realized it was a waste of time.

If you beat the 33s and want to know if you can beat the 55s, don's ask Irieguy, or Raptor, or Eastbay, etc, just get 20 buy ins and play some 55s! Then you will have firsthand knowledge and experience as opposed to vague internet advice. If you are a winning 55er and want to play 109s, there is no way you are going to get killed playing the 109s. You might lose, but you will be able to keep your losses to a pretty low level. So play a bunch, and then you will really know how hard it is.

People often want perfect answers from this forum. They don't exist. If Irieguy says you can beat the 55s, that doesn't mean you'll beat them for more than if he didn't say it. If he says you're not ready, that doesn't make you any worse of a player. There are so many questions that get asked on this forum which just can't be answered. "Can I 8 table?", etc. Why don't you just try and find out for yourself? Nothing can tell you better than trying yourself.

I played some 11s and 22s this month, and I think I did pretty good because I won some of them. Do you think I'm ready to 8 table the 55s?

Hey now, give me a little credit. Most of my posts are serious and address either my own hand questions or those of other people. I don't know why I can't attempt to post something a little light hearted now and then without enduring accusations of post-whoring.

I've been 12 tabling the 200+15's for about 8 months now.

I am down roughly 1.3 million dollars.

But I know it is just a swing.

I think the standard answer should be "the average ROI for x level is -10% (except Party $5+1 which is -20%)."

(I shouldn't talk though...I read those posts all the time)

Yeah, it's been a while since my last 6,000 buy in downswing, but hey, [censored] happens.

well, since all of the other responses here are in the joking tone, i thought that i'd stop in here for a sec with a serious one.

this post is very good. i love it. even, one could say, i heart this post. i personally would have changed "get 20 buyins" to "get a bankroll" so that people can be comfortable with whatever br requirements they may need. but your point is excellent.

i was going to go on gushing, but that's not my style. i'll just end with "well done" and be on my way.

I know a girl with the golden touch
She's got enough, she's got too much
But I know, you wouldn't mind
You could have it all if you wanted
You could have it all if it mattered so much
But then all they know is how to put you down
When you're there, they're your friend
But then when you're not around
They say, "Oh, she's changed"
We know what they mean
Well they mean, they're just jealous
Because they never do the things
That they wish that they could do so well

I find the the moniker of "J-Lo" to be a humorous one for a poker site given her tabloid stance on poker.

Is it intentional? or do you just like her?

Or

Are you her?

(Im getting my post count up too)

are we now suggesting that 20 buyins is sufficient for the $50s?

Voltron87

It's nowhere near a good bankroll, but it's more than enough to take a shot and see how the waters are.

raptor517

20 buyins is about a third of a DECENT bankroll for the 55s. its enough to take a shot, but thats about it. holla

Everyone's always asking "Oh can I beat this level" or whatever and I think 20 buy ins should give you a flavor of the level and answer those questions. If you lose 20 buy ins at a level you're either a losing player or you should know that it was a bad streak and know where you stand.

Either way it is a pretty good signal to drop back down and regroup.

Voltron87

Well yeah. My point was that I wasn't suggesting 20 buy ins was a good br but it would give you an fairly accurate understanding of how you will do at the level, much better than coming on here asking if you can beat the 22s, or x level.
