"my severe lack of poker ability by playing as many tables as possible"

Why do you think I stepped up from 4 tables to 6...if I had the equipment to 8+table I'd do it.

Mr_J
04-11-2005, 11:51 PM
"then bought the new quadro vid card for 400"

Is there anyway to hook this card up to a laptop (I know you can get external video cards or something). I'd love to get another couple of dells to 12 table and have my laptop screen for the lobbys ($100 an hour at the $22s yeahh).

raptor517
04-12-2005, 01:09 AM
mmm, im not sure, but i doubt it. laptops are REALLY tough to upgrade. if you did, you would have to call dell, ask them to do it, and they would probably charge like 800 for the whole process. holla

MooFrog
04-12-2005, 01:44 AM
Take your laptop into a local computer shop, or a few if you don't know a good one. Some of them are terrible, but if you can find a good one they'll be extremely helpful with giving you ideas. While you probably won't be able to get the card to fit in the laptop, it sounds to me like you want to use the laptop as a screen, which I'm pretty sure is possible with quite a few laptops.

Mr_J
04-12-2005, 01:58 AM
"it sounds to me like you want to use the laptop as a screen, which I'm pretty sure is possible with quite a few laptops"

Already do, the vid card allows for the dual setup (so I've got a dell hooked up). I can 6 table with this (4 on the dell, 2 w/ overlap on the laptop since its 1024x768). I'd love to be able to add another dell lcd, but that'd require a card that allows for 3 screens, and obviously mind doesn't. I don't think I could add another monitor anyway even if the card allowed it, can't see where it'd hook up (usbs are already used, and there's only 1 monitor socket).

I guess if I wanna play more tables I have to get a new laptop (1600x1200) or get a desktop. 6 tabling really isn't enough.

Raptor-

How big are the monitors, and what resolution do you run them at?

I'm looking to get (start out at) 2 flat panels, but I'd like to make sure they can each fully fit 4 tables, as I see yours can.

Very nice setup, btw. I'm jealous...

They're the dell 20.1 inch screens and yes they fit 4 each without any overlap. They are at 1600x1200 resolution.

I used to do this as well when I played on my Dell 600m (1280x1024 laptop). Then, I got my Dell 8600 where I can quad w/o overlap. It makes a hellavu lot more difference than I thought it would -- just much more relaxing (if you can call multi-tabling relaxing). It's easier for me to do 4 tables w/o overlap than it was doing 3 tables with.

I used to do that on my 2001 with 4 tables, only because my vision was giving me trouble at 1600x1200. With new contacts I could push the resolution all the way up and it's much better. Use some of your winnings and get a bigger screen. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mr. J - some of the older Dell's (not sure if that what you have for a laptop) can utilize a big honking docking station that actually has a PCI slot in it - I suppose you could throw that card in there and it would work. I might have one of these around somewhere........

I just had a thought. Imagine some guy who sees some poker on TV last night and sees one of the online poker ads. He thinks, "I'll give that a try."

He begins to surf the net to figure out how to go about playing, getting an account, strategy etc.

He happens to find 2+2 and starts to look around.

He happens to see the link for 1-table Tournaments and says to himself, "What is a 1-table Tournament?" And clicks on the link.

The first post he sees is RAPTORS QUAD MONITOR SETUP!!!! and says to himself, "wonder what this is all about?" and opens it..... Imagine that.

You know what I do to prevent neck and shouilder problems? Instead of a desk and an office chair, I have a recliner and a table. That way I can lean way back, put my feet up, and play at all kinds of variable positions, with neck and head support. It's so comfy I could fall asleep playing. I just put the mouse in my lap, on a soft stadium blanket I have wrapped around a big hardback book. Soft but still plenty firm, and easily mousable with a normal optical mouse. If I want to use the keyboard too, I put that on the book and plop my mouse on the overstuffed arm of the recliner.

So exactly how did you go about setting all this up? I definately want to do the same but after searching all over the net I couldnt really find any guides or anything. Did you just get one Quadro card? And exactly which Quadro card(s) are you using? Would any one (two) work? (If just one, how did you hook up four monitors to it? All the ones I saw only had two monitor input spots; is there some way to hook up four monitors to them, or will I just have to spring for two quadros?) Do I need four of the same monitors? I was planning on doing this with one Dell 2005FPW and three 2001FPs, would this work, or would there be compatability issues or anything?

Sweet. I have to get that setup going. Trying to play more than 5 tables with 1 monitor sucks.

with the 2005 fp, there wouldnt be compatibility issues, but the screen resolution isnt idea. i recommend just getting 4 2001 fps, the 2005 is a rectangle. the 2001s are more of a 4:3 ratio.

as for the video card that i use, i bought the nvidea quadro nvs from pny. works like a charm. good luck getting it figured out, and pm me if u have any more detailed questions. holla

If i'm not mistaken, you sit in a $1000 Herman Millar Aeron as well ;-) If so, great choice!

If I ever make enough money and get good enough to play 12+ tables.. I think it's in the cards (pun intended) to go shopping HERE (http://www.go-l.com/)

Yeah, some of those giant monitors are pretty crazy. Great way to spend $10k+.

See, what I want is one of those screens from Minority Report, with the gloves and everything. I mean, you could fit like 58 games on that thing, and just drag them around as needed. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looks like you can't; the link is full of quotes talking about how they shut down.

try 5 tabling on cryptologic 6 max - with virtually warning thats is your turn with the crappy resolution I have . (The 1024 x the other number)

I keep on hiding tables like a mad dog.
