Okay, my sister's birthday is coming up and I want to treat her to dinner. She doesn't like meat much unless it's really, really good meat like filet mignon or prime rib. Anyhow, I think a 'red meat' restaurant is out of the question for this particular day. She likes chicken, seafood, and veggies. She mentioned Thai BBQ the other day but I'm not sure if she really wants that or she's just saying that because it's a decent meal with decent prices and she knows I ain't no baller.

First of all, I live in the LA County in California if that helps. Neither one of us are picky eaters so variety is cool. Let's assume I want to spend $200 max on the dinner. I think that's pretty high but just to get a complete list of restaurants from as many people as I can, I'll set that limit.

Okay, so that's some info on our eating habits and now I turn to you folks here for some advice. Based on this post, which restaurant would you recommend? Could you also explain your reasons why you like a particular place and perhaps link me to their menu if they have one online? Location and all other relevant details would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Go here. (http://losangeles.citysearch.com/bestof/categories?ulink=section_2_topwell1_520___bestof__ 1)

Pick some categories that sound good and make a couple of choices and then ask people here for thoughts on them or to recommend better alternatives.

$200 for two is a huge amount of money for dinner, so your range of options is very wide. As long as you're not spending a lot on alcohol, $100 for two is plenty for a nice dinner.

If neither of you are picky eaters why would you want to spend $200 on a meal? I understand theres a different atmosphere at a restaurant like that, but if I was going to dinner with one of my siblings the tab certainly wouldn't be in the neighborhood of $200. The only exception would be if I in fact was a baller.

We don't have chipotle, qdoba or anything similar nearby. i had the taco bell grilled stuff't for lunch. Not very good, but it was $1.99 so I'm not complaining.

check out www.chowhounds.com (http://www.chowhounds.com) for the LA area. Its a message board only, no ads, posts come from food nuts trying to find the best burger in town, or steak or whatever. I read the Boston one and have found some pretty cool places, places I had never heard of.

Best restaurant in the city, according to L.A magazine, is Beacon, in the Helms Bakery building on Washington Blvd. I've eaten there, it's very good, kind of fusion cuisine with more Japanese touches than anything else. They have fruit infused sakis that are great. Reasonable prices and kind of casual. In Culver City.

The best seafood restaurant in the city, and maybe the best of any kind period, is The Water Grill, downtown on Grand. An upscale place with great food. You'll probably be pushing your $200 limit, but it's worth it.
