ESPN's website projects a player's current year-to-date stats over the entire year. This is interesting and useful after about, say, 100 games, to see what kind of year a player is having compared to his usual year-end stats. But after a few games, the numbers can be quite amusing. Here is today's projection for Mariano Rivera:

Games: 108
Innings pitched: 90
Hits allowed: 270
Runs allowed: 324
Walks: 162
Strikeouts: 162
Won-Lost: 54-54
Saves: 0
Blown saves: 108

And, with those stats, the Yankees are projected to go 108-54. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

[censored] Rivera. Maybe he shouldn't have fried his family in that pool, seems to be getting to him /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yeah, but he did electrify his pool IIRC. Seems -EV.

What's IIRC and what happened to Rivera's family?

A slump or bad couple of games for a relief pitcher probably stands out more than for any other player. Jeter or Manny goes 0 for 8 over two games and nobody really notices. If Rivera or Foulke lets two in a row get away, it's news.

IIRC - If I recall/remember correctly.

Rivera (last postseason I guess, although everything gets hazy in the years we don't win /images/graemlins/wink.gif) had to fly back home because he electrified his pool so his dogs would not jump in, and two family members of his died as a result.
